Can I find studs from outside the house or through the roof?
Locating studs through the exterior of your home can prove to be problematic. Exterior walls are typically thick and covered with materials such as stucco and vinyl siding. These materials, when combined with the construction of your home, result in varying levels of density which interfere with your StudSensor™ tool's ability to scan accurately. One alternative method to locate the studs is to try to locate the stud from the home's interior first. Measure the distance from a corner or window and then duplicate the same distance outside.
Locating the joists through the roof can also be difficult. Again, the different layers of varying materials greatly interferes with the device's scanning capabilities. A workaround would be to use our MT-6 Metal Detector, a six-inch metal scanner, to locate the pattern of nail heads to identify a joist. |
