| I know there's a wire behind my wall. Why can't I find it?
We designed our patented WireWarning® Alert to detect one thing--hot unshielded AC wiring. This essential safety feature helps you avoid accidental electrocution. The WireWarning® Alert will only work properly in specific situations. Some things to be aware of:
- The circuit must be turned on. The WireWarning® Alert is a safety feature and wires that aren't hot don't cause an immediate safety concern. If you must identify wiring behind the surface, turn on the power first.
- If the wiring is shielded by metal conduit, WireWarning® technology won't find it. Consider using one of our metal scanners to locate the conduit.
- The WireWarning® Alert has a range of about 3 inches. Anything deeper than that will not be detected.
- Paints with metallic ingredients will defeat the WireWarning® technology. This is most often a concern in older structures with lead-based paint.
Go with your instincts. If you suspect wires and your scan fails to identify them, it's always a good bet to turn off the power to all circuits that could be running through the wall. A little extra precaution could be all it takes to avoid a dangerous accident. |
