Why is the WireWarning® detection flashing?
The WireWarning® detection is a feature in some Zircon tools that will warn you of the presence of an live unshielded AC wire. Tools with LCD screens will show a warning symbol, while LED interfaces have a WireWarning® detection light. In both cases the alert will stay on as long as you're scanning in the vicinity of the suspected live wire.
If the WireWarning® detection symbol or LED flashes instead of staying on continuously, that means the tool was turned on over a potential live wire. To remedy this, move the tool 10-20 cm to either side and turn it back on. To confirm you started over a live wire, you can scan back towards the spot you started over previously, and look for a steady WireWarning® detection to come one.
*Note: In some buildings, wires are shielded by metal conduit. Neither the WireWarning® detection or AC Scanning feature can detect live wires shielded by metal. If you suspect you have shielded wires, use a metal scanning tool.
CAUTION: While power must be on in order to detect live wires, you should always turn the power off before working near electrical wires.
