We strongly recommend registering your detector to receive the latest product information such as updated instructions, new videos and availability of software updates. To register your detector, click here.

To configure your Leak Alert™ X smart detector to send email alert notifications, you will need:

  • Your Leak Alert X detector
  • 3V (CR123A / CR17345) Lithium Battery (Primary – Not rechargeable)
  • Wi-Fi access (and password to the Wi-Fi network)
  • An electronic device with Wi-Fi capabilities, such as a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or computer. The following devices/operating systems are recommended:
    – iPhone/iPad – iOS version 9.0 or later
    – Android – 4.4x or later
    – Mac – OS 10.11 or later
    – Windows – Windows 7 or later

Step 1: Open the battery door on the back of the unit, remove battery pull tab, and securely position battery.

To open, turn device around so the front of the detector resides in your right palm, with the bottom facing up. Slide finger or thumb into indented groove, squeezing in battery door and lifting up. Lift and detach battery cover with one hand.
Remove battery pull tab and securely position battery according to the diagram in the case. Replace battery cover.

CAUTION: Risk of explosion if incorrect battery type is installed. Dispose of used batteries according to applicable law.

Step 2: Test the detector’s audio and visual indications.

Wet your finger and touch the two metal Sensing Contacts. The detector should emit a series of beeps in an SOS patter and the lights should flash. Dry the contacts to stop the alert.

Pro Tip: Keep fingers away from the metal sensors as natural moisture can trigger the alarm when in contact with the metal sensors at the end of the cable.

Step 3: Press the Reset/Wake button to activate the detector.

The lower left LED will flash.

PRO TIP: In Step 4, you will need to access the Wi-Fi settings on your electronic device as well as enter the Wi-Fi network password, if applicable. Please refer to your device’s user manual if you are unsure.

Step 4: On your device, access the Wi-Fi network settings, and select to connect to the LeakAlertX_XXXXXX_XX “network”.

It may take several seconds for the LeakAlertX network to appear on your list.

Once connected, the detector’s lower left LED will be solidly illuminated and the lower right LED will flash.
Your device and detector must be connected in order to set up email alerts and complete configuration. Immediately move on to the next step.

NOTE: The wireless access point will time out after 3 minutes of inactivity. A series of 3 beeps will sound and both LEDs on the detector will turn off. If this occurs at any point during the setup process, repeat Steps 3 and 4.

Step 5: On your device, open  a web browser and enter IP address 192.168.4.1.

A setup screen should appear.

If the setup screen does not load, please double-check to ensure that your device and detector are successfully connected as defined in Step 4 and/or that the IP address has been entered accurately.

Step 6: Link detector to your Wi-Fi network router.

Select preferred language and press the “Next” arrow towards the bottom of the screen.

On Setup Screen 1: Wi-Fi, select your Wi-Fi router, enter password, if needed, and press the “Next” arrow. This may take several seconds for this step to complete.

PRO TIP: To check for software updates, or if the Help (?) icon displays a red badge, press the Help icon. Select “Yes” to update the software. Once confirmed, repeat Steps 3 – 6 above and continue the Steps below.

IMPORTANT: ROUTER RELIABILITY IS KEY. If your router is factory reset, replaced, has its wireless password updated, or a new configuration is entered, the Leak Alert X detector must be reconfigured to the router or it will be unable to send email alerts.

Step 7: Name your detector (32 character max) and enter your local time.

Email alerts will note the detector’s name and time stamp.

PRO TIP: If you have multiple detectors, we recommend naming them with the intended location (i.e. Kitchen sink).

An optional event log summary can be sent in an email every 6 days. Select whether you would LED and Buzzer alerts.

Step 8: Enter your name and best email address(es) to receive alerts.

The detector can send alerts to up to 5 email addresses when a leak is detected, the battery is low, upon successful configuration, as well as any time there was a lost connection to the router, once it is reconnected.

Press the green “+” to add an email address and press the red “X” to delete an email address. Carefully review all contact information before pressing the “Next” arrow.

Step 9: Check EACH email address configured to verify you’ve received a successful configuration email notification.

If a notification is not received, please also check your Spam or Junk folder (and flag as “Safe” for future notifications). Then check your Wi-Fi connection and repeat Steps 3 through 9, carefully reviewing all user information is entered correctly.

IMPORTANT: DURING THE INITIAL CONFIGURATION OF YOUR LEAK ALERT™ X, YOU MAY RECEIVE A “LOW BATTERY ALERT” NOTIFICATION TO YOUR CONFIGURED EMAIL ADDRESS(ES) AS A RESULT OF A TEMPORARY DIP IN THE BATTERY VOLTAGE DURING THE CONFIGURATION PROCESS. THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON. THE BATTERY WILL QUICKLY RECOVER ITS VOLTAGE ONCE THE CONFIGURATION PROCESS IS COMPLETE AND THE DETECTOR ENTERS SLEEP MODE.

HOWEVER, IF YOU CONTINUE TO RECEIVE LOW BATTERY ALERT NOTIFICATIONS VIA EMAIL, OR THE DETECTOR CONTINUALLY “CHIRPS” AT REGULAR INTERVALS BETWEEN 9:00 AM AND 5:00 PM, PLEASE CONTACT ZIRCON TECHNICAL SUPPORT BY CALLING 1-800-245-9265 DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY 8:00 AM TO 5:00 PM PACIFIC TIME OR SEND AN EMAIL TO techsupport@zircon.com.

Step 10: Place or mount the detector anywhere leaks may occur, with the metal Sensing Contacts touching, and flat against, the non-conductive surface.

IMPORTANT: DETECTOR MUST BE WITHIN RANGE OF THE WI-FI ROUTER TO SEND EMAIL ALERTS.
