New CenterVision® Technology Changes Stud Finding Forever

CAMPBELL, Calif., September 22, 2004 — Zircon is rolling out the very first products to feature its ground-breaking CenterVision® technology that pinpoints the stud center with just one pass.

Aptly named, the TriScanner® OneStep® and MultiScanner® OneStep® take all the guesswork out of locating the best place to drill or nail into a stud.

CenterVision® is the most exciting innovation to hit stud finding since Zircon introduced the original electronic stud finder back in 1980. It once again changes the face of stud finding forever! Current scanning technology requires that users employ a dual scan and mark procedure to find the stud center. In other words, they must find one edge, then find the other edge, and from that information the center can be determined. With CenterVision® technology, that procedure will go the way of the dinosaurs, as users need only make one pass to find dead-center every time.

“For nearly 25 years, Zircon has led the way in scanning technology,” stated Zircon President Bob Coler. “CenterVision® technology further advances that history of innovation, marking the dawn of a new day in scanning. The elegant simplicity of this technology virtually eliminates error and is sure to make these tools the next must-have for every toolbox. It’s hard to imagine why anyone would want to find studs in any other way.”

Zircon is rolling out the new technology in two of its most popular and robustly featured tools. The TriScanner® OneStep® is a three-in-one tool that accurately locates studs, joists, metal, and rebar, with an additional WireWarning® detection which indicates the presence of unshielded, “hot” electrical wires. It features an easy-to-read LED screen and will retail for a suggested $39.95.

The MultiScanner® OneStep® includes all the features of the TriScanner® OneStep® except that it also has a back-lit LCD screen and can trace, as well as detect hot voltage. Its suggested retail price is $49.95.

“TriScanner® and MultiScanner® are two of our most popular tools, so it was only natural to choose them as the first candidates for this new technology,” stated Coler. “This breakthrough has opened the door to many new possibilities which are on Zircon’s drawing board and will be reaching market over the next year and into the future.”

Both tools feature an ergonomic design, non-slip grip, and a distinctive, high-impact yellow case that is built to withstand a rough-and-tumble environment. Underneath the skin of these tools lies an engine with serious horsepower. Custom, integrated circuitry incorporates patented technology that reduces the number of parts while permitting both the TriScanner® OneStep® and MultiScanner® OneStep® to see through surfaces up to 1 1/2 inches thick for studs, other metal such as water pipes and electricity. Breakthrough CenterVision® technology will find the precise center of studs up to four inches wide. It also scans through up to 3 inches of concrete to locate rebar. A centrally mounted switch allows users to easily change modes.

A single operation button turns the units on and triggers the patented TruCal® calibration, providing instant calibration before each use to ensure accurate results every time. Both tools are backed by Zircon’s one-year limited warranty and are available at leading home centers, hardware stores, and professional outlets throughout the United States and abroad.

Silicon Valley-based Zircon is dedicated to delivering innovative, easy-to-use technology to the world’s toolboxes.
